Chocolate Covered Mandarin Slices

·

Chocolate covered mandarin slices are a delicious (and healthy) snack for lunch boxes, snacks or even party trays. They are a naturally gluten-free and vegan (though be sure to check your labels!) making them a great option for everyone. While I topped mine with flakey sea salt for a sweet and salty bite, you can top them with any number of toppings (see my list before for ideas)

  • Peel the orange and section into pieces. remove excess pith.
  • Melt the chocolate in microwave in 15 second increments. Once melted, dip half of each orange into the chocolate and place on a piece of parchment paper. Sprinkle tops with sea salt.

Topping Ideas:

If you wish to substitute the sea salt, try some of these other topping ideas:

  • Chopped nuts (pistachios, almonds or pecans)
  • Shredded coconut
  • Sprinkles (match your occasion or party decor)
  • Cocoa Powder

Tips for making Chocolate Dipped Mandarins:

  • Substitute semi-sweet chocolate for dark chocolate or white chocolate depending on your tastes.
  • Add a spoon full of coconut oil to chocolate to thin/ smooth if desired.
  • Make sure you use fresh oranges (not canned).

How long will chocolate dipped mandarins last?

Once the chocolate dipped mandarins have set up, transfer them to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator.

They will keep well in the fridge for up to 2-3 days, but if you want to serve them at a party or family gathering, I suggest making them on the day of your get-together or alternatively a day ahead to achieve the maximum freshness.

Hope you try this easy recipe. Its fun to do with kids and can be fancy enough for parties! Love chocolate treats? Don’t miss my recipe for Chocolate Covered Stuffed Dates. They are to die for and make a terrific and thoughtful gift.
