Make Your Own Freezer Pops to Beat the Summer Heat

·

Freezer pops make me think of childhood and hot summer days. In honor of National Freezer Pop Day (yes, apparently that’s a thing!), I wanted to share how easy and inexpensive it is to make your own freezer pops. Ditch the food dye and opt for a healthier and more flavorful pop. Infuse with booze for a grown-up treat. There are so many options! Here’s how to make your own.

How to Make Your Own Freezer Pops

One of my favorite things about making freezer pops, is how little you need to actually make them. It can also make for a fun summer activity with kids — as long as they’re patient enough to wait for the outcome. *wink* For these pops, I use my beloved Vitamix, which I also love to use for meal prep and smoothie bowls! I bought a set of 120 Disposable Ice Popsicle Mold Bags, which can be used for all sorts of things, including freezer pops and yogurt sticks! It’s honestly as simple is puréeing fruit, adding a liquid, and pouring into these bags before freezing! Here are the combinations used in these photos:

  • Fresh pineapple + coconut water
  • Cherry + lime + coconut water
  • Blueberry + lemon + coconut water (my favorite!)
  • Watermelon + lime + coconut water

Another option is to add coconut milk for a creamier consistency and taste.

  • Strawberry + coconut cream
  • Lime + coconut cream

Tips: Use fresh fruit over frozen if you have the option, for a more flavorful popsicle. Add agave or honey for extra sweetness.

If you use these kind of popsicle molds, you can also add fruit chunks to the mix. Add pieces of apple and sprinkle brown sugar, for an “apple pie” popsicle. Dip coffee pops in chocolate shavings or make a “Mexican hot chocolate” pop with tajin. Don’t be afraid to think out of the box, but more traditional flavor combos, like peaches and cream (peach purée + coconut milk + peach chunks) are excellent too!

Here’s a cold treat for the 21+ crowd! Take any of these freezer pop options and add your favorite booze for your next pool party or visit to the lake/beach. For alcohol freeze pops, just add a splash of vodka, tequila, or rum. Make a piña colada popsicle or boozy cherry limeade pop!

The pop-sibilities are endless! (hehe)
